From the drill floor to the pipeline, oil and gas operations depend on connections that make up cleanly, seal under pressure and break out without damage. The compound on those threads and the sealant in those valves are small line items with very large consequences when they fail.
Where the risk is
A galled tool joint can cost a trip out of the hole. A leaking casing connection can compromise a well. A seized plug valve on a gathering line means a shutdown and a hot-work permit. Most of these failures trace back to using the wrong compound for the depth, temperature or pressure, or to valve sealants that dried out.

Operators are asking for more consistent make-up torque, fewer heavy metals on location and valve products that last longer between service visits. Newer synthetic sealants and metal-free compounds answer those demands without sacrificing performance in most applications.

API SPECIAL is a high pressure thread sealing compound that represents the industry standard for tubing and casing in deep, high pressure wells due to its high percentage (64%) of lubricating solids. This product is adapted from the API Bulletin 5A2.

WIRELINE DRESSING is a heavy duty, tenacious, semi-synthetic penetrating grease fortified with sub-micron size particles of Molybdenum Disulfide (Moly) and Graphite. This high performance liquid grease goes on as a liquid to penetrate to the core of the wire rope. After it penetrates and coats the metal surfaces, the carrier solvent evaporates, leaving behind a tough, durable grease film that protects under the most adverse conditions.

What is the difference between a tool joint compound and a thread sealing compound?
Tool joint (drill collar) compounds protect rotary shouldered connections from galling and control make-up torque. Thread sealing compounds for casing and tubing are designed to seal against pressure. Some products, such as HUSKEY RB-2, do both.
Do you have an environmentally friendly pipe dope?
Yes. HUSKEY Enviro-Eez is a non-metallic, non-petroleum tool joint compound, and HUSKEY Monitor Well Drilling Compound is designed not to interfere with volatile organic testing.
Can one valve sealant cover most of our valves?
Often yes. HUSKEY Valve Cheat-Her is a general-purpose lubricant-sealant for hydrocarbon, LPG, natural gas, aqueous, acid and caustic service. Send us your valve list and we will confirm.
