What Wind Energy Equipment Is Up Against
Micropitting
Variable wind loads can cause micropitting and early gear damage in the main gearbox.
Hard to reach
The nacelle sits dozens of meters up; every service visit needs planning, lifting equipment and good weather.
Temperature extremes
Turbines must start in freezing winters and keep protecting in hot summer nacelles.
Oscillating pitch and yaw motion
Pitch and yaw bearings swing through small angles, which weakens the oil film and causes fretting wear.
Wind power is taking a growing share of energy production in Türkiye and worldwide. Turbine output depends on the reliability of gearboxes and bearings dozens of meters above the ground. Every unplanned tower climb and every gearbox failure means lost generation.
Why turbines are hard on lubricants
Variable wind loads cause micropitting in the main gearbox. Pitch and yaw bearings oscillate through small angles and the oil film weakens. Turbines have to run in everything from freezing cold to hot summer days.
Modern solutions
Full synthetic gear oils with surface-modifying additives reduce micropitting and run cooler. PAG-based oils give long oil life. Solid-lubricant greases protect oscillating bearings and yaw gears. Oil condition monitoring flags problems early.
How Oilsan helps
We supply HUSKEY™ synthetic gear oils and greases to wind farm operators and service companies in Türkiye and around the world, and provide technical support for oil changeover planning.
New Lubrication Technologies for Wind Energy
Low-friction synthetic gear oils
Full synthetic gear oils with surface-modifying additives reduce micropitting, lower operating temperature and stay fluid in the cold thanks to a high viscosity index.
PAG-based gear oils
Polyalkylene glycol oils offer long oil life with high oxidation resistance and heat transfer; changeovers need a compatibility check.
Solid-lubricant open gear and bearing greases
Moly and graphite fortified greases form a protective film on yaw gears and oscillating bearings.
Oil condition monitoring
Remote oil sensors and regular analysis warn of gearbox damage before anyone climbs the tower.
HUSKEY™ Products for Wind Energy
LPC Series Gear Oils
LPC GEAR OILS are high-performance, fully synthetic, all-purpose gear oils formulated with HUSKEY’S new proprietary SEM (Surface Eutectic Modification) additive. The revolutionary new SEM technology makes it a Lower Power Consumption (LPC) gear oil, hence the name LPC Gear Oil. They offer maximum wear protection under extreme operating conditions such as vibrations, scuffing, oscillating motions, and shock loads, where metal asperity contact occurs. Because of the thermally and mechanically stable polyalphaolefin (PAO) base oils and SEM technology, HUSKEY LPC GEAR OILS give extra protection to micro-pitting due to asperity contact. In addition, compared to both conventional mineral and synthetic gear oils the HUSKEY LPC GEAR OILS have proven they can lower the operating temperatures of the gearbox resulting in lower power costs. Due to their high viscosity index, they provide effortless startup even during cold temperatures; yet give extra wear protection in high-temperature applications. The added antifoam protection gives extra protection to high-speed gearboxes. In addition, the demulsification properties of HUSKEY LPC GEAR OILS provide very fast separation from water contamination. They meet or exceed all *major gear oil specifications, original equipment manufacturer requirements, and wind turbine manufacturers.
Industrial OilsView product →SPG-300 Series Oils
SPG-300 SERIES OILS are formulated from Polyalkylene glycol (PAG) base oils and carefully selected additives to provide long service life, excellent wear protection and protection against rust and corrosion. The combination of outstanding oxidation resistance and thermal stability at high temperatures, a very high viscosity index, and excellent low-temperature properties makes them suitable for year round use over a wide temperature range. HUSKEY SPG-300 SERIES OILS are NSF/USDA H-1 *Registered and KOSHER approved which gives them full acceptability for use in all areas where incidental food contact may occur.
Food-Grade Lubricants · Industrial OilsView product →Moly-Graph Grease
MOLY-GRAPH Grease is blended from the highest quality selected paraffinic petroleum oils, polymers and shear stable synthetic thickeners available. Treated with the latest chemical E.P. additives, rust and oxidation inhibitors to provide lasting protection against friction, wear and corrosion. Graphite and Molybdenum Disulfide (MOLY) lubricating solids of precise sub-micron and micron size have been completely homogenized into the product to further enhance load capacity, improve metal surfaces and reduce friction. Its Polymer base helps the grease to stay put and seal out dirt, water and other contaminants.
Industrial GreasesView product →Open Gear Grease
OPEN GEAR GREASE is a heavy-duty, highly tenacious, semi-synthetic open gear lubricant containing a balanced blend of molybdenum disulfide (moly) and graphite, incorporated in a non-asphaltic, non-melt base grease that contains no clay fillers. Treated with the most modern additives to provide lasting protection against extreme pressure, wear, rust, and oxidation on gear faces and sliding surfaces operating in temperatures from -5°F to 425°F.
Industrial GreasesView product →MP-2 Polyurea Grease
MP-2 Polyurea Grease is a second generation polyurea grease. This unique new, high performance, multi-purpose grease is based on advanced polyurea technology. It is formulated from pure petroleum base oils then fortified with extreme pressure additives and rust and oxidation inhibitors. HUSKEY MP-2 Polyurea Grease gives longer bearing life under high speed, high temperature and high water applications than most other widely used antifriction bearing greases. The distinctive Green color makes it easy to identify during and after lubrication.
Industrial GreasesView product →Tuff Stuff Grease
TUFF STUFF is a new generation grease designed for today’s demanding industries. It represents the “state of the art” in grease technology, combining the finest base oil stocks, additives and synthetic thickeners available to provide a truly multi-service, friction reducing, non-melting grease with unmatched protection in normal and severe service applications. HUSKEY TUFF STUFF is a blend of the highest quality paraffinic base oils and polymers coupled with HUSKEY’S newest proprietary extreme pressure additive which forms a tough durable film of protection from friction, wear and corrosion over a wider temperature range (-20°F. to 540°F). HUSKEY TUFF STUFF’S unique formulation provides superior adhesion to metal surfaces that does not easily wash off, run out or separate even under adverse conditions of water, steam or dilute chemicals thus providing lower grease consumption and extended lubrication cycles.
Industrial GreasesView product →Common Questions
Which oil do you recommend for wind turbine gearboxes?
HUSKEY LPC Series Gear Oils are especially recommended for wind turbines for their micropitting protection and wide temperature range. Always check the turbine manufacturer’s approved list.
Which grease should we use on pitch and yaw bearings?
A solid-lubricant fortified grease that protects under oscillating motion, such as HUSKEY Moly-Graph. Open Gear Grease is an option for yaw gears.
How do we change over from mineral to synthetic gear oil?
PAG-based oils in particular need a full flush and a seal and paint compatibility check. Let’s plan the changeover procedure together.
